Considered as one of the hottest places on the earth, Death Valley is situated in Eastern California, in the northern Mojave Desert, close to the Great Basin Desert. It is the lowest and driest portion of the North American continent.

Death Valley National Park is a lovely but perplexing land where the huge stones seem to move across the dried lake known as Racetrack Playa, leaving a path behind them in the dried cracked mud.

Researchers have attempted to comprehend the riddle of the moving stones for many years now. Local lore says that dust devils might have moved the stones some of which weigh as much as 700 lbs. while others believed that strong winds flowing across the lake can make the stones slide over the ground.

The stones movement has been accused of everything from space aliens and magnetic fields to pranksters.


A few more interesting things about the Death Valley:


1. Death Valley is the lowest point in North America.

It is one of the hottest place on the earth. In July 2018 it witnessed its fieriest month on record. The normal temperature was 108.1⁰F counting night lows. During the day, it reached a temperature of 127⁰F for four days consistently.


2. Conflicting to its name, Death Valley comes to life with all the colors in the spring. Whilst the park is well-known for its unusual and remarkable wildflower shows, flowers are not ever entirely absent in the off season.

3. As the sand slides down the steep slopes of the tall sandbanks, a sound similar to the bass note of a pipe organ or the remote buzz of an airplane can be heard, like the sand is singing to you. The reason for this happening is unidentified, but it’s most likely to be due to the resistance among sand particles.


4. Here, the small Roadrunner is a very common wildlife species can be found as its high body temperature lets it to be out during the hot time of the day.

5. It’s called Devils Golf Course because only the devil could play golf on its surface.


6. Corrosion of metal particles accumulates in the mountains and creates beautiful shades of green, blue and purple that look like an artist’s color palette. This serene setting and the locations can be seen in the movies like Star Wars: A New Hope, Spartacus, The Twilight Zone, and Tarzan.

7. Nearly25 feet tall Wildrose Charcoal Kilns that looks like a beehive structure, reserve the past of Death Valley in their walls. Constructed in 1877 by American Indian, Hispanic and Chinese labours, the furnaces gave a source of fuel fit to utilize in two smelters at adjacent lead-silver pits till1900. So these Kilns are considered as remains of it’s history.

8. Over 600 feet deep and half a mile wide Ubehebe Crater was formed about 2,100 years ago. However, the most recent eruption might have occurred around 300 years ago. Native tribes calls it a "Tem pin tta Wo’sah” which means Coyote’s Basket. The entire crater can be watched from a parking lot on its edge, which show the marks lefts behind by the volcanic eruption.

9.In Death Valley, surprisingly six species of fish can be found that can endure in the salty waters and the tough conditions.

In any case, nobody has observed the stones move, which just adds to the puzzle.
