What Happens After Death??
What Happens After Death??

Whenever we lose some loved ones few questions always occupy our heads. Something like what exactly is death? Is it painful? What might happen after death? Is there life after death? If so, how does rebirth happen? We start feeling lost and sometimes even regret. Feel like so many things are left unsaid and unspoken and things happen so suddenly we start feeling helpless and can only wish there could be some sort of connection again.

Here we’ll have a look at how these are explained and described in Hinduism.

So, what happens after death? It’s indeed a very fascinating process. As per the notion, deaths are very painful and you are sent to Hell or heaven based on your Karma. Let’s figure out what exactly happens.

It’s said around 4-5 hours before death, the earth star chakra located roughly 12 to 18 inches below the soles of the feet get disconnected, indicating detachment from the earth. If you carefully observe before few hours of death, people will have their feet turned cold. Later the Astral cord, a cord linking the soul to the body. Once this cord is cut the soul moves and leaves the body. You might have also noticed sometimes a subtle, minor movement of the face or hand of a person even after they died it’s said that as the soul is always too attached and fond of the body carrying it, the souls also find it hard to accept and hence tries to possess the body again and stay. But once the astral cord is cut, a soul can’t stay and is pulled out of the body, s a pull from above, a celestial magnetic pull to go up. Yama, the God of death arrives to get and guide the soul.

When the soul is out of the body, it hears many voices and thoughts of the people present at that moment, all at once. The soul even tries talking to the beloved ones and people around but it goes unheard. Eventually, the soul comes to terms with the reality then it reaches approx 12 feet above watching, listening to, and observing everything happening. Usually, it’s said that a soul will be around the body till it is cremated.

After the cremation, the soul finally has to accept that the key essence of its existence on the earth is gone, the body dissolves in the 5 elements. The soul now has complete liberty, the limitations it came across being in the body are no more. With just a mere thought it can just reach anywhere. For the next 7 days, the soul revolves around the things or the people they were most attached to or fond of. And on the 7th day, the soul bids adieu to their family and charges towards the periphery of the earth to move to the other world.

In Hinduism post the death, the next 12 days are considered very crucial as a soul has to cross a large tunnel during this time on it’s way to the astral world. Thus it’s said that the rituals are supposed to be performed accurately and the family and near ones of the deceased should pray and ask forgiveness from the soul so that it does not hold grudges or any sort of negative feelings. A lot of people carry out hooponopono which is an ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness for 21 days. All these rituals, prayers help the soul in its journey. At the end of the tunnel, there is an extremely bright light indicating the door in the astral world.

11th and 12th day for Hindus is Narayan Bali and the rituals through which the soul meets with its departed and long lost souls of ancestors, close friends, relatives, and the gurus. The soul then reviews and sees the whole life spent on the earth in the pure light of the “Karmic Board”.

The most interesting part is that the judge of all this is the soul itself, and not God. After watching the karma board, it’s the soul that asks for punishment for all his misconduct in life out of guilt to learn the lesson and revenge for the people who troubled him.

Based on this, the soul creates a complete life pattern for own which is called the blueprint. All the situations to be tackled, all complications to be faced, all the events to be occurring to even the tiny details like age, people we meet, the incidents are defined by the soul in this blueprint. The soul decides it’s next life and the events of suffering, depending on its deeds and the amount of guilt a soul is carrying. Hence it’s said that people should keep their patterns and emotions clean and clear as the same things move along to the other world too. People often feel unfortunate and blame it on their stars but this is what they agreed upon and asked for in their agreement.

As per the agreement and asks mentioned, a new life is born. It is said that it can take 20-30 years or even more also for a reincarnation. A soul chooses it’s parents and enters the mother's womb either at the time of egg development or in the 4th or 5th month or at times even at the last second right before the birth. It’s said that a newborn baby remembers its past life for close to 40days after it’s born and laughs or cries without any reason because of the flashback of their memories. Post this, the past life memory is completely wiped off and it experiences the new life.

People’s agreement comes into the light now, and they go through different phases, situations, problems, events, and even face challenges in life as described in the blueprint. Friends, enemies, parents, relatives, spouses everyone, and everything that comes along in life have been chosen by the soul.

It’s normally said that that a soul with unfinished business, with incorrect last rituals, with extreme sorrow, guilt, shock on demise, abrupt death, fear of going to the unknown astral world or souls with rage against someone or if it’s too attached to someone gets stuck in between the earth and the astral world. Hence, a soul needs to move towards the astral world in the next12days post which the doors to the other world start shutting.

As per Hinduism, visiting temples and worshiping is not advised for the next 12 days, however praying and performing rituals for the departed loved ones is extremely vital as it supports them to cross that bridge peacefully, protects them and helps them tackle all the obstacles they face in their journey to the other world.
